County Line Road over Peace River

Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. completed the full replacement of the CR 664 (County Line Road) Bridge over the Peace River, located just east of Bowling Green in Polk and Hardee Counties, Florida. Originally built in 1958, the aging structure had reached the end of its service life due to substructure deterioration and no longer met current design or safety standards.

The new bridge features two 12-foot travel lanes with the addition of 8-foot shoulders on each side, significantly improving operational safety for motorists. As part of the scope, Cone & Graham reconstructed or resurfaced the bridge approaches as needed, installed new guardrail, and constructed a maintenance access connection road on the north side of County Line Road west of the bridge.

The project also included drainage enhancements, roadway reconstruction, and new signing and pavement markings. Due to its location over navigable waters, Cone & Graham implemented marine protection measures and secured the required marine liability coverage to safely manage in-water work during the bridge demolition and construction phases.

The new structure enhances both safety and resilience while substantially reducing long-term maintenance requirements. The bridge officially reopened to traffic on October 24, 2025, restoring a critical regional crossing and improving connectivity for residents, agriculture, and commercial transport across this portion of central Florida.
