Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. recently completed structural and surface rehabilitation of the South 25th Street bridge over Ten Mile Creek in St. Lucie County, Florida. This project, managed by the St. Lucie County Engineering Division and funded in part by the voter-approved Half-Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax initiative, was designed to extend the service life of a key transportation route while improving safety and accessibility for motorists and pedestrians alike.

Originally constructed decades ago, the bridge required a range of repairs to address aging infrastructure and meet modern standards. Scope of work included milling and resurfacing the asphalt roadway, removing and recasting damaged sections of Type F curb and gutter, restoring spalled concrete areas with epoxy, and cleaning and resealing existing bridge deck joints. Additionally, Cone & Graham, Inc. rehabilitated sidewalk sections, reset drainage inlet tops, and replaced raised pavement markers and thermoplastic pavement markings across the full width of the bridge and its approaches.

Bridge striping on the deck and concrete approaches was replaced with durable permanent tape, and a supplemental bid alternate included cleaning and applying a non-sacrificial anti-graffiti coating to the traffic-facing surfaces of the bridge’s parapet walls. Landscape restoration and sodding were performed across all disturbed areas, while maintenance of traffic and pedestrian access was maintained throughout the duration of the project.

This project was delivered under a strict schedule, with substantial completion required within 90 calendar days of notice to proceed, and final completion within 155 days. Cone & Graham, Inc. met all project deadlines, ensuring the bridge reopened to the public ahead of the school year, minimizing disruption to local residents and improving long-term resiliency of the corridor.
