Overview

Cone & Graham, Inc. completed the design-build widening of US 98 (Dade City Bypass) in Dade City, Pasco County, Florida. The project widened approximately 1.6 miles of US 98 from two lanes to four lanes between 7th Street South and 7th Street North, increasing roadway capacity and improving mobility along this important regional and freight corridor.

The project included construction of two new roundabouts at 7th Street South and Old Lakeland Highway, along with new traffic signals at Meridian Avenue, 7th Street North, and River Road. Improvements were also made to the existing signalized intersection at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. New sidewalks were constructed along both sides of US 98, improving pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to the surrounding community and downtown Dade City.

A significant component of the project was the accelerated construction of the roundabout improvements. Cone & Graham, Inc. worked closely with FDOT and project stakeholders to coordinate an intensive construction operation that condensed major roadway activities into a limited closure period. Through extensive pre-planning, sequencing, manpower and equipment coordination, the team was able to complete the work efficiently while minimizing the duration of impacts to the traveling public and surrounding community. The successful accelerated operation represented a major project milestone and demonstrated the benefits of close coordination between the design-build team, FDOT, and local stakeholders.

In addition to the roadway and intersection improvements, the project included the drainage, signing and pavement markings, lighting, utility coordination, and other infrastructure necessary to support the widened corridor. The improvements were designed to enhance traffic operations, accommodate freight movement, and provide safer and more efficient connections for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists traveling through the area.

The successful completion of the US 98 Dade City Bypass project provides additional capacity along a growing transportation corridor while improving safety, connectivity, and long-term mobility for the Dade City community. All construction activities were completed in July 2026, months ahead of schedule.
